Everyone says publish more content to win in AI. Does it work — and what is the alternative?

More content mainly raises how often you are found. It rarely changes the decision, because the decision usually fails on evidence you already have but the model can't use. The alternative is remediation: find where the decision is lost, make the evidence that decides it usable, put it where the assistants read, and measure again.

Why more content usually isn't the fix

The problem is rarely that a brand has too little content. Of 592 facts AI models showed they held about brands, 75.7% were not used when the model made its recommendation (22 brand-SKUs across beauty, financial services and travel). The model often has, or can find, what it needs. It doesn't connect it to the buyer's question at the moment it decides.

Adding more pages to that pile mostly adds to the part of the funnel that already works: being found.

What remediation involves

  1. Measure the decision. Find the turn where the brand drops out, the competitor that replaces it, and the reason given.
  2. Make existing evidence usable. Put the deciding facts in a structured, machine-readable form, such as a brand.context record, so a model can read and verify them.
  3. Connect the facts to the buyer's criteria. State them against the questions buyers ask, so the model can reason from the question to the brand.
  4. Place the evidence where the models read. Each assistant trusts different sources, so the placement is tuned assistant by assistant.
  5. Get the technical basics right. Pages that assistants can't reach, parse or crawl count for nothing.
  6. Measure again. Re-run the same conversations to show whether the decision moved.

Does it work?

Yes, and it can be shown, because the same measurement is run before and after. In one like-for-like re-measurement in July 2026, a consumer brand's Reasoning Chain Score rose from 41 to 51 in ten days after remediation, on the same conversation set.

How long it takes

It depends on how the assistant answers. When an assistant searches the live web, changes to the evidence it reads can show up within days. When it answers from what it learned in training, change waits for the model to be retrained, which takes months. A good program measures the two separately.

What to look for in a provider

Measures the recommendation, not the mentionIt reports what happens when the buyer asks what to choose — chosen, shortlisted, a competitor, or generic advice — not just whether you appeared.
Uses multi-turn buying conversationsReal buyers ask, compare, push back and then decide. A single question can't show where you drop out.
Repeats runs and reports rangesAI answers vary from run to run. One answer is a sample of one.
Reports outright wins separatelyBeing shortlisted alongside a rival is not the same as being chosen, and the two should never be blended into one number.
Separates searching from memoryAssistants answer some questions by searching the live web and others from what they learned in training. The two move on very different timescales.
Fixes, then re-measuresA report that stops at the diagnosis leaves you where you started. The test of a fix is the same measurement, run again.

Common questions

Does creating more content actually help you rank in AI?
It can help you get mentioned. It rarely changes which brand is recommended at the decision, because that depends on whether the model can use specific evidence against the buyer's criteria, not on how much content exists.
What is the real playbook for getting recommended by AI?
Measure the decision turn, find the evidence that was missing when you lost, make that evidence structured and verifiable, place it where each assistant reads, and re-measure to confirm the decision moved.
Beyond publishing more content, what actually improves how AI represents our brand?
Making the facts you already have usable: structured, machine-readable, connected to the questions buyers ask, reachable by the assistants, and consistent across the sources they trust.
How do we actively fix how AI talks about us, not just monitor it?
Use monitoring to find the turn and the reason you lose, then remediate the evidence behind it, then run the same measurement again. Monitoring alone tells you what happened; it doesn't change it.
How long does it take to change what AI says about a brand?
Days to weeks where the assistant searches the web; months where it answers from training. Measuring each separately shows which is moving.
